Record Store Day is just around the corner and we bring you the best events in town.

Streaming sites and online tunes are great. You’ve got access to thousands of tracks no matter where you are. However, not to sound like your grandparents, there is something special about a good ‘ol record.

That’s what Record Store Day is all about: feel-good tunes with the nostalgic twist. Vinyl is almost where it all began with the rustic original sound of your favourite beats, quirky and mesmerising artwork and a physical copy of the album you love to play on repeat.

Alongside celebrating the wonder of vinyl, Record Store Day is all about appreciating independent record shops across the world.

In the UK alone, 240 independent record shops come together to celebrate vinyl with special releases and a mountain of free events. There’s a lot happening in Glasgow this year so get your da’s record player out for the vinyl revival.

Assai Records

241/243 King Street, Dundee

1 Grindlay Street, Edinburgh

To get the momentum started for #RSD17, Assai Records welcomed local lads The View to perform an instore gig on 21 March. Tomorrow (21 April) will also feature more live music from Carousel and more. Similarly, the Edinburgh store is getting in on the action. The Triassic Trusk record label will be doing a mini showcase for everyone who just can’t get enough of local music.

LP Records

11 Park Road, Glasgow

Kicking things off from 8am (get the bacon buttie en route) there will be live music from: Hayley Heynderickx, Savage Mansion, Caitlin Buchanan and many more with the party going on until late into the night. It’s a celebration after all!

Love Music

34 Dundas Street, Glasgow

Serving you exclusive new releases with a mix of the trendiest names in local music performing, Love Music know how to impress. The annual performance of Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5 (time to don the yellow), Fallen Arches, Beat Poets and many more will perform alongside DJs, Rockin’ Tom Rafferty and Love Music’s very own Soul Boy Davey.

VoxBox Music

21 St Stephen Street, Edinburgh

Stocking up on the biggest Record Store Day releases, VoxBox Music will also bring free, limited edition Fred Perry collaboration record bags to the first people in the queue. Make sure to get there early and don’t miss out. Oh, did we mention it’s free and there will be live music, too.
