Have you considered a career in nursing?

If you are caring and love to help others, but enjoy a challenge then nursing could be the perfect career for you.

Nurses conduct physical examinations, administer medication, check patient progress and work closely with other medical professionals to provide care. You might assume that as a nurse you have to work in a hospital, but this isn’t necessarily the case.

A career in nursing comes with endless possibilities. Alongside hospitals, nurses work in community health centres, care homes, people’s home and prisons to name a few. Opportunities range from hands-on care to leadership positions.

The University of Stirling is ranked top five in Scotland for Nursing. They offer courses in Adult Nursing and Mental Health Nursing and both are approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The university has also won multiple awards, including Educator of the Year at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2018.

As a nursing student at Stirling you spend half of you time studying and the other half getting hands-on experience on placement. You’ll gain work experience in a variety of real healthcare settings and can even apply for a placement overseas.

A personal tutor will help and guide you through your studies and a practice mentor will offer additional support at each of your placements.

Just like other courses in Scotland, your tuition fees are covered, but you will also receive a bursary when you study nursing. This helps to cover your living expenses and doesn’t have to be paid back when you graduate like a student loan.
