Have you always dreamed of a career in music? Used your hairbrush as a microphone, or your desk as a drum? Are you the next Arctic Monkeys, or maybe even the next Ariana Grande? 🎤
Well now’s your chance, because Glasgow’s Hard Rock Café on Buchanan Street is set to host the European heats for the Battle of the Bands competition.
The competition is looking for bands, solo performers, DJs and MCs
Entrants must perform an original take on an existing song: this means you could perform ‘thank u, next’ as a screamo song, or jazz up Gerry Cinnamon’s ‘Belter’ with some saxophone and piano.
Glasgow will be one of six cities around the world hosting heats, including: Nashville, Seattle, Sydney, Curitiba in Brazil, and Moscow.
In 2016, local Glasgow band 100 Fables made it to the finals, after being crowned first place at the European heats. The year before Break the Butterfly did just as well, showing that Scottish bands have the potential to go far in the competition.
The closing date for entries is 9 February, 4pm EST (9pm GMT). The entry form includes information on the band, the members and links to social media pages, so make sure you have all this information handy before you sit down to fill it out.
Also part of the entry form is a link to an audition piece, which could either be a performance on YouTube or Vimeo, or an audio clip on Soundcloud.
Once selections for heats have been made, acts will perform in their home Hard Rock Cafe in front of a panel of judges and fans.
Two regional winners will then be chosen from each city, receiving $1,000 and moving further into the competition, where the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite act.
The three bands with the most votes will become the finalists, receiving an all inclusive trip to New York City, to perform at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. Finalists will also win $15,000 and a performance in front of record label executives.
You never know, you could be the next big Scottish talent. So, do us all proud, and get your application in ASAP. You won’t regret it.
