Last night (28 January), Source HQ were lucky enough to get tickets to an intimate gig by music’s favourite bad boy, Pete Doherty.
With a new image (he now goes by Peter, if you don’t mind), and new album to boot, Peter is putting on four small shows across the UK, to promote it.
TOUR
Kicking off in Liverpool on Sunday (27 January), Peter headlined the stage at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow city centre, before heading off to play two more nights later in the week; one in Carlisle and one in Newcastle.
SETLIST
Playing some songs from his latest album with new band, Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres, the setlist also featured classics from his previous solo work; his second band, Babyshambles; and, of course, hits from the iconic Libertines.
Bringing the house down with The Libertines’ What Katie Did, Time for Heroes and What a Waster; he also delighted fans with Babyshambles’ Albion, and even played Fuck Forever, after a request from the crowd.
REPUTATION
Peter’s reputation within the music industry is infamous, holding unplanned ‘guerilla gigs’ in flats across London with The Libertines, before the band went their separate ways, and he formed Babyshambles.

Though his career has been peppered with difficulties and scandals, it hasn’t marred his ability to write songs, whether they are being belted out by fans, or listened to so intently you could hear a pin drop.
GIG
Notorious for being late on stage, Peter takes to the stage only five minutes late, and fans are raring to get going. Though he’s almost in his forties, the room is full of a younger generation, who sing along to every word: an indication of the far-reaching impact of his music.
With only his acoustic guitar for company on the stage, Peter’s vulnerability is visible, and shows why fans have stuck with him for such a long time: though he may have garnished a reputation within the industry as a rebel and musical revolutionary, he’s really just a man with a guitar, playing songs to make people happy.

This afternoon, Peter announced a second gig tonight at King Tut’s, which sold out within the hour.
Anyone who can sell out a gig on the day within such a short space of time must be something special. If you’ve somehow managed to get a ticket, count yourself lucky – we’re sure it will be another belter.
Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres’ self-titled new album will be released on 26 April. You can preorder it now.
