REVIEW: Peace – In Love

In Love is the debut album from one of the UK’s fastest-rising bands: Peace.

The Birmingham quartet , who formed just two years ago, have put together an impressive piece of work that’s the perfect accompaniment to spring/summer ‘13 (even if the weather outside isn’t). Their sound is reminiscent of The Maccabees and Vampire Weekend so if you’re a fan of either of those bands – you’ll love In Love.

Higher Than The Sun kicks off the album and sets the perfect tone for the rest of the record. It’s a real feel-good track that is indie-pop at its best. Next up is a re-recorded version of the hugely successful single Follow Baby, followed by the album’s standout track, Lovesick. This track is an instant classic and its 90s vibe is guaranteed to be everywhere this summer. You’ll struggle to get it out of your head!

The album slows down for the hazy Float Forever, a track which really showcases the band’s lyrical talents, as well as their softer side. Another previous single, Wraith, also makes the album – proving that the band are much more than a one-hit wonder.

There are many genres of music throughout the album but Peace manage to make it sound slick and smooth rather than chaotic. Delicious is a perfect example of this as it starts off oddly jumpy before the guitar riff bursts in for the infectious chorus. The album closes with California Daze, another incredibly catchy track that leaves you wishing it wasn’t the end of the record.

Overall, In Love is fantastic debut from a band that is sure to have an amazing 2013. Their slot on the NME Awards Tour gained Peace a lot of attention from critics and fans and this album is just what they needed to secure their status as one of the best new bands in the UK.
