A galaxy of stars from the world of music and entertainment will be heading to Glasgow this May to share some words of wisdom with Scotland’s young people at Radio 1’s Academy ahead of this year’s Big Weekend at Glasgow Green.
Local lad Kevin Bridges and business supremo Sir Richard Branson will be appearing at Glasgow’s Queen Margaret Union alongside musical greats like Emeli Sandé and Katy B to offer some insight into the world of entertainment. From Saturday 10 May to Friday 16 May, the QMU will play host to a week of social action for 16 to 19-year-olds from Glasgow and beyond.
The Academy will have slots for 7,000 young people across the week. Stars signed up for Q&As, practical workshops, Live Lounge performances and masterclasses include:

Emeli will host a songwriting masterclass, Kevin Bridges will teach youngsters the art of standup and the cast of Waterlook Road will be sharing some of their acting skills. Radio 1 DJ Greg James and his team will host a masterclass panel session, with Biffy Clyro and Sir Richard Branson taking part in Q&A sessions.
Also during the week, Rita Ora will treat fans to a live performance while BBC Introducing will host two nights of live music from local bands.
Radio 1 DJs will broadcast live from the Academy throughout the week, with Nick Grimshaw broadcasting live from BBC Scotland in Glasgow every day.

It’s the perfect place to share ideas, interests and hopefully pick up some advice along the way.”
