A group of journalism students from Fife College have scooped a top prize at the Scottish Student Journalism Awards in Glasgow.

The second year HND class came first in the category Student Publication of the Year for their website-themed magazine Browser.

Their 36-page magazine beat off competition from hundreds of students in universities and colleges across Scotland.

Judges reportedly admired the magazines’ fresh look at student life, which came about after detailed market research that showed most teenagers live a large part of their lives online.

The magazine was edited by 19-year-old Leuan Williams, from Crossford near Dunfermline, who was surprised but delighted by the result.

He said: “This reflects the hard work and long hours that everyone put in to Browser magazine.

“To win the award is an amazing achievement – we all thought we had a strong concept and were so chuffed to see it get the recognition it deserved.”

As well as a certificate and trophy, which will be given pride of place in the Journalism classroom at the college’s St Brycedale Campus in Kirkcaldy, the team received a cheque for £250.
