While working on the new feature film, Life Just Is, which focuses on key issues faced by a group of friends in the months following their graduation, the film’s creators came to realise that many graduates had a story to tell about their experiences of entering ‘the real world’.
With this in mind, they have decided to launch From Education to the Abyss, a social experiment which aims to get the conversation going about life after uni.
Hosted on the film’s YouTube channel, From Education to the Abyss asks people to leave video comments detailing their experiences, thoughts, funny moments or heartbreaks from that period of their life. The filmmakers hope that by sharing these stories they can help shine a light on the issues faced by young people leaving uni today.
Common themes expected to appear are relationships, career, health, spirituality, community, travel, self-image and finances. To help kick-start the conversation, the filmmakers have uploaded three initial stories, including a look at the post-university experiences of Alex Barrett, writer/director of Life Just Is.

Life Just Is tells the story of Pete, Tom, David, Claire and Jay, a tight-knit group of friends who share neighbouring flats in London after recently graduating from university. As they hang out, throw parties and navigate the new responsibilities of adult life, romantic tensions begin to stir beneath the surface. When Jay begins a relationship with the much older Bobby and Pete goes on a quest to discover the meaning of life, the true meaning of their friendships are put to the test.
The film was nominated for Best British Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and boasts a critically acclaimed young British ensemble cast, including Jack Gordon (Panic Button, Fish Tank), Jayne Wisener (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The Inbetweeners), Nathaniel Martello-White (Hard Boiled Sweets, Misfits), and Paul Nicholls (Goodbye Charlie Bright, Law & Order).
The film will be in UK cinemas from 7 December (details here: http://www.lifejustisfilm.com/screenings.htm) and is available on DVD and Download from 10 December (order from Amazon here: http://amzn.to/TlCv3S)
