Glasgow grads have it good

All across Glasgow, recent grads are donning their gowns, throwing their diplomas and receiving cheek-stained kisses from their emotional mothers.

If you’re one of them – congratulations! You’ve made it through four years of blood, sweat and beers to finally achieve the degree of your dreams. You also deserve an extra special pat on the back for choosing the second best city in the UK to graduate in.

That’s right – Glasgow grads have it good according to new research. Experts reckon that Glasgow leads the way in being one of the best cities in the UK to be a graduate.

Sheffield was the only city to top Glasgow (their pints are cheaper on average by 5p you see) but the Scottish city still boasts strong graduate salaries, low rental costs, cheap bills and high disposable incomes. Phew! That’s quite a list. Still, ever the Scottish optimists, we reckon the list goes on.

Read our list and see why Glasgow truly is the best place to study, party and graduate (in that order). Take that Edinburgh!

Hogwarts ain’t got nothing on us. This is the view FROM THE ACTUAL LIBRARY. Surely this scene alone is enough motivation to make you stay till closing time.

2. The music

Glasgow has the liveliest music scene in the world, producing fantastic bands from the likes of Chvrches, Glasvegas and Biffy Clyro to Frightened Rabbit and Twin Atlantic. The list goes on. Best of all, the city boasts fantastic gig venues that world-class bands can’t resist returning to for one more tune. Twenty years after recording their debut album, Tiger Milk they performed a series of shows in Glasgow University Union last week.

3.  The unions

Which brings us neatly to the student unions. Glasgow Uni is so good it had to have two. Originally split into a female and male union, we’ve done away with that segregation rubbish to create the two of the best party locations ever. The Glasgow University Union and Queen Margaret Union may have two district styles (and two even more distinct and deadly cocktails – hello Pint of Fun and Magic) but both prove that there ain’t know party like a Glasgow party.

4. The bars

When you need a break from the sticky floors and strawpedos at the Union, the city centre is bursting with bars and pubs.  Not convinced? Bloc on Bath Street has it’s very own orchestra and offers Buckfast ice cream and dancing till three, while Nice ‘n’ Sleazy’s has White Russians and cute boys with beards on tap.

5. The people

‘People make Glasgow’ is our semi-official motto. You’ll be hard done in finding a bunch of people who are more mad, lovable and friendly than Glaswegians. We know how to party, but we’ll always hold you’re hair back when you’ve gone too far. Glasgow we love you.
