Guide to the events at Glasgow European Championship 2018

Sports lovers can rejoice as the first ever Glasgow 2018 European Championships is being held from August 2nd – 12th.

The multi-sport event looks set to be the new highlight on the sorting calendar, bringing together athletes from Gymnastics, Cycling, Aquatics and Triathlon.

With a potential audience of up to 1.03 billion across the continent, Glasgow intends to make the most of its time in the spotlight over the 11 day celebration to help send Scotland’s sporting reputation to a whole new level!

You’ll get the chance to meet Bonnie the seal pup, the official mascot of Glasgow 2018. To get everyone into the sporting spirit, Bonnie will be travelling across Scotland before the Championships to encourage and celebrate young people getting into sport.

The chance to see world-class sport in a number of venues across the country in 12 different venues, including Track Cycling at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Mountain Biking at the Cathkin Braes Mountain Bike Trails, Gymnastics at the SSE Hydro, Diving Championships at the Royal Commonweath Pool in Edinburgh and many more.

Not only that but you’ll get the opportunity to see all your favourite sports idols. Around 3000 of the best athletes in Europe are expected to attend and with all of the events being aired amid across the board coverage by the BBC, you can relish taking part in an event being watched by millions.

And for those of you who are not so interested in sport, Festival 2018 is also showcasing a wide variety of free cultural events which include visual art, dance, theatre, music and design.

George Square will be the main hub for all of this action, with a special opening concert, evening events, plenty of food and drink, as well as the opportunity to catch all the sporting action on the big screen.
