Have you got the tech factor?

Good news for those of us getting bored of karaoke-esque talent shows – showbiz heavyweights Will.i.am and Simon Cowell are joining forces, launching a new show to find the next big thing in the world of technology.

Cashing in on the success of The Social Network, Simon and Will are on a mission to hunt out top entrepreneurial tech talent, in the style of Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.

“We’re working on a project called X Factor for tech — and it’s going to be out of this world,” The Voice UK coach Will told The Sun. “Singing and performance create a couple of jobs. But this will create lots. It’s about getting in touch with youth and giving them a platform to express themselves — whether that’s in science or mathematics.”

While the duo are better known for their services to the entertainment industry, Black Eyed Pea Will has long been a supporter of the world of science, technology maths and engineering, acting as ‘director of creative innovation’ at Intel, donating cash to STEM education products and even having a song beamed to Mars.

Can this bid to bring technology into the mainstream succeed? Only time will tell…
