On Monday, February 11, four-piece band Peace had the honour of opening up the NME Awards Tour at the O2 Academy Glasgow – a slot previously performed by some little-known bands you may have heard of like Coldplay and Kaiser Chiefs. So, no big deal then! Source caught up with Harry, Sam, Douglas and Dom backstage after their performance to find out more.
Hi guys! You’ve just opened up the NME Awards Tour here in Glasgow, how did the performance go?
Harry: Good, I think we played well!
Douglas: We played an extra song as well, just for Scotland.
How do you find the Scottish crowds?
Sam: They get better each time we play.
Harry: The reaction was a bit slower in Scotland than in England but the last few shows we’ve done have been great.
You guys formed at the end of 2010, how did the band come together?
Harry and Sam: We’re brothers.
Harry: Sam and Dom were high school friends and Douglas and I were friends and we just decided to write some songs!
Dom: Just like that, bada-bing bada-boom…quote me.[laughs]
How did it feel when your debut Follow Baby began getting such a buzz?
Harry: That was really weird because it was the first song we’d ever had on the radio
Douglas: There was a few times when I turned on the radio and it was playing. I was like, ‘Hmmm I’m sure I recognise this!’
What’s life like you for you on the road?
Harry: We’ve kind of got used to it now because we did it pretty much non-stop. It’s a bit like Groundhog Day. You wake-up in a hotel, you go to soundcheck, play a show, go to another hotel.
Sam: Sometimes I wake up with no idea where I am.
Douglas: It’s quite nice you’ve just got yourself in to a routine. When we go back on the road we can’t remember what it’s like to not be!
You’ve been playing some shows in the US, what’s life like over there compared to the UK?
Harry: We’ve only done a few shows and they were quite cool, I was surprised how many people were in to us! We’re doing a full tour out there in a couple of months.
Dom: Driving on the wrong side of the road is weird! It’s like Britain, but in reverse.
Are the fans more intense?
Harry: The people that I met that were really in to us, it was almost like they looked like us. They had leather jackets with peace signs on the back. I said, ‘You actually look better than me, how do I look more like you?’ When they get in to things they really get in to them!
You all have a very individual style, is fashion something your interested in?
Harry: I’m not sure if it’s something we’ll do as a band. I’ve got a few friends who are in the industry and design clothes but I don’t really want to go all Kanye West [laughs].
Douglas: Maybe in a few years if this music doesn’t work out [laughs]
Where would you see yourself in five years?
Harry: Hopefully still with these three guys!
Thanks Peace!
