Little Mix strip to promote body positivity

Everyone’s favourite girl band has made a bold statement on body positivity.

We’ve all been through experiences of confrontation or negativity, where someone has said something nasty to you, or you’ve said something you wish you could take back.

And if you’re in the public eye, you can’t even post an Instagram without someone having something negative to say.

X factor winners and hit girlband Little Mix have posed naked with insults written across their bodies, to highlight the abuse they receive on social media from trolls on a daily basis.

BODY SHAMING

Words including “ugly”, “stupid”, “fat”, “talentless” and “slutty” are written on the girls, to promote their new song, “Strip”, which will feature on their new album, LM5.

The band said that they did it to”encourage and empower people to be who they are”.

Little Mix have often been praised for speaking out on issues including female empowerment, body confidence, racism in the music industry, mental health, LGBT issues and experiences with eating disorders.

CRITICISM

However, they’ve also been heavily criticised through the years for their “provocative” choice of outfits on stage, with member Jesy Nelson under particular scrutiny for her looks.

But her opening up about her experiences has helped fans come to terms with their own, and she’s credited with improving body positivity and self-love among fans.

LeighAnne also opened up recently about being the band’s only black member, saying that she was told she’d have to work “twice as hard” as the other girls, and feeling like she didn’t have as many fans as her fellow members.

The band’s post and upcoming song is a reminder to all that the words you say have a lasting impact, even if you can’t see it.

So, let’s all take a leaf out of Little Mix’s book, and start promoting kindness and shutting down negativity in ourselves, and when we see it in others.
