National Fish and Chip Day

What a great day it is all around. The last day of exams (finally!), it’s Friday and it’s a National Day we can all get on board with – National Fish and Chip Day. As if we really needed an excuse for a Friday night takeaway.

Fish and chips have always been, and always will be, one of the most comforting dinners. Family nights in, catching up with your pals with a big bottle of Irn Bru to boot, or going a wee bit fancy and getting a fish super in a restaurant, this is a meal that has no limitations.

We’re getting hungry. Lets batter in (pun intended) and take a look at the best fish and chip shops across Scotland.

Traditional café and takeaway shop in the heart of Glasgow’s Byres Road, Old Salty’s knows how to do fish and chips properly. Offering up hake, haddock, calamari and more this little gem works hard to make the world famous fish supper “feel special again.”

Frankie’s Fish and Chips

If you’re really dedicated to getting the best catch of the day and distance is not an option, then Shetland is your next stop. Situated in the small village of Brae is the award winning Frankie’s Fish and Chips that offer up more than just your average takeaway. Also on the menu is fresh mussels, crab and king scallops – a fish lovers heaven.

Anstruther Fish Bar

In Fife you will find Anstruther Fish Bar where fishing is in the heart of everything they do. The family owned business is run by Robert and Alison Smith – the couple have even traced their fishing industry lineage all the back to the 1700s. With this amount of fishing and fish knowledge this is definitely the plaice (again, pun intended) to be.

The Bay

Opened in 2006 this little gem has been serving up fresh, locally sourced fish to many happy customers. Right on the banks of Stonehaven the fish basically jump out of the sea onto your plate for a flaky taste sensation. Yes, that is our stomachs rumbling.

Hooked

Swapping chippie chips for sweet potato fries and a host of trimmings from Spanish rice to a king prawn supper this menu will suit everyone’s needs.
