If you weren’t one of the hardcore film fans that stayed up all night to watch this 89th Oscars ceremony – don’t worry we have you covered. Let’s run down Oscar 2017’s best moments – from the LOLs, the politics to the epic muck-ups.

Things got awkward real quick…

First things first. If you need to know only one thing about this year’s Oscars, it’s that someone messed up BIG. TIME. In a shocking blunder, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway accidentally announced La La Land as the Best Picture winner.

But, in a painful turn of events, it actually transpired that Moonlight had won.

Yup. Awkward.

Watch the cringy moment in all its horrifying glory below…

Warren Beaty tried to clear up how he made the mistake by explaining that the Best Motion Picture Care actually said ‘Emma Stone, La La Land’.

Warren said: “I’ll tell you what happened. I opened the envelope and it said ‘Emma Stone La La Land’ that’s why I took such a long look at Faye and then you. I wasn’t trying to be funny. This is Moonlight, best picture.”

But in ANOTHER awkward turn of events, Emma Stone shut down the theory that Warren read from the wrong envelope.

I don’t mean to start stuff – but whatever story that was, I had the card. So, I’m not sure what happened. And I really wanted to talk to you guys first.’

Eeep! So it looks like we still don’t have the answer to the biggest slip-up in award show history…

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for La La Land, however. As mentioned, Emma Stone nabbed Best Actress and La La Land’s Damien Chazelle, 32, won the award for Best Director – making him the youngest man to ever have won it!

Let’s Get Political

Following last year’s #OscarsSoWhite controversy, plus Donald Trump’s election, the 89th annual Academy Awards was always never going to be a quiet one. And boy did it deliver – there was policial passion by the bucketload!

Political pins were THE accessory to sport whether it was the blue ACLU ribbon or the gold Planned Parenthood badge (as seen on Emma Stone).

Meanwhile, host Jimmy Kimmel live tweeted the President halfway through the show to check that Trump was okay. Kimmel was worried because Trump hadn’t yet tweeted anything rude so the comedian asked if he was up and also tweet, “#MerylSaysHi.” Actual lol.

Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal spoke at length about how he was against any kind of wall that separated people. His political stance sent Twitter wild and got him a standing ovation from the crowd

Meryl Streep bossed it. Again.

Isn’t she just the best. Of course, the only answer is yes, YES SHE IS. Meryl Steep was at it again, being a goddess and stealing our hearts. She gave the speech of all speeches when she accepted her Cecil B. DeMille award at the Golden Globes this year, and also made history as the most nominated performer that the Oscars has ever seen, after earning her 20th nomination for her role in Florence Foster Jenkins. Bow down…
