Most of us know her best from her 2010 hit single “Pack Up”, and now Eliza Doolittle is back with her second album, jam packed with catchy tunes and a bright, radiant feel throughout. ‘In Your Hands’ is bursting with variety, each song with a catchy beat and some beautiful melodies. Eliza has an terrific voice – flawless harmonies that can go from high to low, her own unique sound and sweet lyrics to go with it.
My favourite from the album has to be ‘Let It Rain’. This song is great, the tone light and charming. Definitely song of the album for me – I could listen to it again and again! Another big track from the album ‘Big When I Was Little’, was released this summer and debuted at number 12 in the UK single’s chart. With a sense of nostalgia about it, this is a song where Eliza reminisces about days gone by, her childhood and the way she remembers things used to be. Although there have been mixed opinions so far on the singles released from the album, I find it hard to fault. Yes, admittedly some of the songs on the album are better than others, then again you could say that about any number of artists out there.
One of the things I admire most about Eliza is that she does, undoubtedly, have her own sound. She isn’t like anyone else and she doesn’t try to be. As soon as you hear any of these tracks on the radio, you’d know it was her. She has that retro-style, modern pop look and sound, it’s an acquired taste to be sure, but honestly, this album is just unbeatable.
If you’re a fan of Eliza’s previous work, I would definitely recommend giving this lovely album a go. Eliza has outdone herself on this one – it is, in short, brilliant, filled with songs that you’ll always catch yourself singing along to and an original sound, powered by Eliza’s effortless, incredible vocals.
In Your Hands by Eliza Doolittle is out on 14 October
