Girls Aloud are back with their greatest hits collection Ten.
The girls have reunited to celebrate the ten year anniversary of their forming on reality show Popstars: The Rivals – remember that one?!
It’s hard to believe it’s been a over a decade since Cheryl, Nadine, Kimberley, Nicola and Sarah burst on to the scene with Sound of the Underground! It’s great to have them back after they’ve had three years of pursuing their own projects.
Ten is filled to the brim with Girls Aloud classics along with four new tracks. So many of the girls’ hits are on there including Love Machine, Biology, Something Kinda Ooooh, Can’t Speak French, Untouchable and The Promise. It’s so nice to be reminded how many fun songs they’ve had and to be taken on a trip through the last ten years of one of the best girl groups in UK history.
Best of all, the new Girls Aloud tracks are just as great. New single Something New is an absolute smash and reminds us why we’re so glad the girls have decided to join forces once again. The album’s token ballad Beautiful Cause You Love Me is a sweet song that showcases Nicola and Kimberley’s fantastic vocals. Nicola gets a chance to shine again in On The Metro, a song which she wrote as well as provides lead vocals for. The last original song Every Now And Then is another good track but doesn’t really stand out from the other three. The tracks manage the tricky task of staying true to their Girls Aloud roots but also showing how much they’ve grown in the last ten years.
Overall, Ten is a great, fun, feel-good record. Even if you’ve forgotten (or tried to hide) how much of a Girls Aloud fan you are, this album will remind you as you find yourself singing along to songs you didn’t even know you knew. Our only complaint is that there’s not more new material from them! Never leave us again Girls Aloud!
