REVIEW: Jahmene Douglas – Love Never Fails

Jahmene Douglas wowed viewers on the last series of X Factor right from his first audition, where he performed a jaw-dropping rendition of Etta James’ ‘At Last’.

He continued to win over the audience throughout the competition with his outstanding vocals and sweet manners but fell at the last hurdle when he came second to the series winner, James Arthur.

However, Jahmene has picked himself back up and is now prepping the release of his debut album ‘Love Never Fails’.

‘Love Never Fails’ is a collection of covers, or as Jahmene prefers ‘gospel interpretations’, with the lead single being Jahmene’s version of David Guetta and Sia’s ‘Titanium’. The original was such a massive hit that it could have been a huge risk to attempt it, however Jahmene does it so well that the track seems to be a good fit for him.

Jahmene covers other charts hits including Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’ and Emeli Sande’s ‘Next To Me’. One of the highlights of the album is his version of Beyonce’s ‘Halo’. The song allows him to showcase his full vocal range and is definitely one of the stand-out tracks of the record.

As well as modern hits, Jahmene also takes on some old classics. ‘The Greatest Love’ and ‘In The Arms Of An Angel’ are two tracks which really prove that Jahmene has one of the most beautiful voices around right now.

Overall, Jahmene has definitely recorded a solid debut and there’s no doubting that his voice is seriously impressive. However, it would be nice to hear some of his own material as, having been on the X Factor, we’ve never had the chance to. Hopefully next time around we’ll get to hear Jahmene lay those incredible vocals over his original tracks!
