Before, they were just some British boys posting up covers of songs on YouTube. Now they’re famous artists on sell out tours, with hit singles and bragging rights of supporting some of the biggest names in the business – Taylor Swift, The Wanted and McFly to name a few – and even a Source cover! The Vamps are most definitely on the rise and it doesn’t look like they’re going to be disappearing any time soon. Now their new album, Meet the Vamps, looks to be yet another success.
The band themselves are full of boyish charm and cheeky grins – exactly what a boy band should be. They have a great presence and it’s clear they’re enjoying what they do. While the album does get a bit cheesy sometimes, it can be forgiven since it’s light, fresh and perfect now that the summer months are rolling in. Even the album cover is in the sunshine on the beach! It’s nearly impossible to listen to this album without tapping your foot along with the beat. It’s great for jumping around to! I can see a lot mums borrowing this one when no one’s looking…
My favourite track is either Oh Cecelia (Breaking My Heart) or Somebody To You. I love the acoustic feel of their music, since it just reminds me of going to festivals and having fun. They’re fun, they’re catchy and I love it. There is a good mix of both bouncy tracks and slower ballads but they never stray into the whiny and resist the temptation to state the obvious. While The Vamps could be criticised for following in the path that Justin Bieber and One Direction have blazed, I don’t think that’s true. These boys have talent. They have an edge that hasn’t been seen before, and is somewhat lacking in other boy bands around at the moment. Can We Dance, Wild Heart and Last Night are already very popular singles and all appear on the album.
I’m excited about going out to buy this album and I’m also excited at the prospect of hearing more mature material from The Vamps as time goes on. For now though, I’m more than happy listening to this to cheer me up. After all, who doesn’t love a bit of boy band now and then…?
