Union J first burst onto our screens on the ninth series of the X Factor. Two years down the line, they’ve released a full length album, opened for Selena Gomez in Lisbon, embarked on their own UK headline tour and are about to release their second album, You Got It All, on 8 December.
The album opens with the summer hit Tonight (We Live Forever), giving off a real energetic vibe which is then followed by the boys’ new single, You Got It All, which is a real power ballad that really shows off the boys’ vocals.
The album pace picks up again during the third track, All About the Girl. With a catchy beat it’s hard not to sing along, and the catchy beats are continued throughout the next track One More Time. The album slows down again with I Can’t Make You Love Me, a real tear-jerker. We’re reminded yet again that these slower ballads really are the group’s strong point.
The energy rises again with She’s In My Head and briefly stops with the opening of Midnight Train, which sounds like a magical bell tinkling before launching into a catchy beat. Acoustic tracks I Love To Watch You Sleep and Central Park further show off the boys’ vocals.
The slightly cringe-y-titled track YOLO and Get It Right are both songs that make you want to clap your hands and sing along followed by Song For You and I, which has a slightly more acoustic and folky beat to it. The album then closes with a cover of the classic Christmas tune It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.
With You Got It All, Union J have definitely proved that they’re able to give us a catchy tune or two. The only thing I have to query about the album is the fact that it’s being released in December. With the exception of the closing track, I get a real summery vibe from the album and can imagine myself listening to a good number of these tracks on a road trip with the windows rolled down. If you’re looking for a new album to get up and dance to, You Got It All by Union J is the one.
