Top Tips For A Study Break

The exam date is looming, you’ve got books piled up around you and a forest worth of paper all over the place with words highlighted in the hopes you’re studying the right thing. Stress levels are building and you’ve drunk so much tea you’re not quite sure how you haven’t turned into the PG Tips monkey yet. Never fear, we’re here to help you chill out.

Yes it’s allowed! Did you know that your brain actually only absorbs information for around 90 minutes before it switches off? If you’ve read the same sentence for the fourth time and you’re questioning if ‘exam’ is even a real word anymore, then you need a study break.

Go Outside

We don’t mean in a sense of going outside, running away and never coming back to avoid the dreaded exam. We mean go outside and have a walk or play a game of footie or anything that gets you out of the house and away from your books. They’re still going to be there when you get back (unfortunately, but we can’t help you with that!) Having a ten minute fresh air break will waken you up and give you a new lease of life.

Have A Snack

A healthy one mind you. Exam season can be extremely stressful and it can see you falling into a hole of pot noodles and takeaways. Eating a bit healthier will give you more energy as you’re getting all the foodie goodness your brain needs to stay alert and absorb more information. Go get some bananas, the ultimate brain food.

Catch Some Z’s

Ditch the all-nighters and have a nap during your study break. Breaks can be from ten minutes to an hour long before you’re just procrastinating – if you’re shaking from all the coffee you’ve consumed have a nap and get energised. Staying awake all night won’t help you remember more it’ll just make you feel tired and groggy which is no use to anyone.

Listen to Music

Unwind and listen to your favourite playlist or album or chill with a cuppa listening to the radio. Scientists have discovered that listening to music releases dopamine that can make you feel happy, pumped up, and motivated so it’s a great way to give yourself a boost during study downtime.

Socialise

We imagine you’re going to spending most of your time in the library (snore). Why not get your mates involved in your study sessions and have a break together. Getting to catch up with folks in the same boat as you, helping each other out by having an extra bit of motivation helps when you’re ready to get back to work and smash revision out the park.
