As summer hurtles quickly towards us, it’s the perfect time of year to change around your make-up products, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to spend a fortune. We’re here to let you into the secrets mastering the catwalk looks this season on a budget.
Pastel Nails
We’ll start with nails and unsurprisingly this summer, it’s all about the pastels. We’ve seen some stunning shades on the nails of models on the catwalk, so how can we recreate these ourselves? Starting at the higher end of the products we love, Model’s Own have released a range of Fruit Pastel polishes for £5 each. As well as having adorable names like Apple Pie and Blueberry Muffin, the pastel tones are stunning and they also smell like the fruits they’re named after. Weird, but we like it! Slightly cheaper, Barry M have some lovely pastel tones for £2.99, our favourite right now is Strawberry Ice Cream. If you’re looking to grab a bargain, check out the NYC range in Superdrug. For only £1.99 you can pick up beautiful pastel tones like Lavender Cupcake and Mint Macaroon.
Gatsby Inspired Lips
We still haven’t fully recovered from how good The Great Gatsby was (don’t get us started on how gorgeous Leo DiCaprio was), so we’re not surprised that the 20s style is making a reappearance in the beauty world. The bold red lip was quintessential in the swinging 20s and you can recreate it easily on the cheap. The Kate Moss Lasting Finish lipstick has been raved about for months and ‘Shade 1’ is the perfect bold red and comes in at £5.49. Even cheaper than that, you can grab ‘Shade 1’ or ‘Shade 8’ of the MUA lipstick for only £1 in Superdrug and transform yourself into Daisy Buchanan!
Natural Glow
Now that the colder months are behind us (kind of), it’s time to chuck out the heavy coverage foundation and embrace something lighter to make your skin glow. We can recommend the Bourjois 10 Hour Sleep Effect Foundation which you can pick up from Boots for £9.99. It’s a great, light foundation that covers blemishes but still lets your skin breathe. A cheaper alternative is SEVENTEEN’s Sheer Moisture Foundation which comes in at £4.99. The foundation offers more of a sheer glow, with minimal coverage but still gives you a healthy shine.
Golden Eyes
Golden eyes are in this Summer and we love this trend. It’s easy to find stunning, highly pigmented eye shadows that don’t break the bank. At the moment, we love MUA’s Eye Trio in Emotions which is available for a tiny £3. We also love the Frontcover To Go Twinkling Gold Baked eye shadow available from Boots for only £2.
Waterproof Mascara
It’s the season for swimming whether you’re home or away and waterproof mascara is an essential. Our favourite waterproof mascaras on a budget include the Barry M Bold waterproof mascara for £6.19 and we’ve also been enjoying the Model’s Own Ultra Waterproof mascara which retails for £6. Just make sure you have a decent make-up remover because waterproof mascara is notoriously difficult to take off. You can pick these up from Boots or Superdrug for a couple of pounds.
Bronzing and Highlighting
Bronzer and highlighter are two essential beauty products for the summer months and we’ve found some great ones which are under a tenner. Rimmel’s Natural Bronzer is a powder formula raved about by beauty bloggers UK wide. It’s only £5.59 for a great product that will last all summer and give you a beautiful sun-kissed glow. It also contains an SPF protection. As for highlighters, we’re obsessing over Topshop’s cream Glow Highlighter in Gleam. It’s an investment for £9 that will give you a rose gold sheen through the summer months – we love it!
