For those of us lucky enough to grow up in the simpler times of the 90s, a celebration is on the cards.
As you can guess from the title, one of the biggest toys/life experiences of the 90s is returning. Tamagotchis are set to return for a limited period of time for their 20th anniversary – we’ve got some life experience under our belts, and this time we won’t kill the little creature.
Let us fill you in – the Tamagotchi is an egg-shaped toy with a tiny digital screen that hatches different pixelated animals. The main goal is to keep it alive. Feeding it meals, playing with it and letting is snooze, it is quite a demanding little creature. Back in the day you had to tend to it at least every 15 minutes – imagine the outrage at kids looking at a digital screen that much…
If only we knew.
Well, Japanese manufacturer Bandai has revealed that it will be releasing updated versions of the coolest 90s toy for $15 – or £9.99 from Toys R Us and Smyths Toys (they’re currently out of stock until January). You can, however, pick up your very own digital pet from Amazon and revel in the giddiness of caring for this little nugget… We know it’s not real but you’ll be amazed how attached you’ll get.
Way back in the day this digital pet, complete with it’s very own keychain, was the talk of the playground and taught many of us to feed and clean something other than ourselves. Granted, many of us forgot to feed our Tamagotchis. Sorry about that.
It really was a simpler time. From sticky gooey aliens back-to-back in the fridge and praying they reproduced to nursing the fruity goodness of a Push Pop lollipop – those were the days. Thankfully it seems the 90s are making a major comeback and what better way to reminisce than to bring back the Tamagotchi? We’re pre-ordering ours now…
