Tomorrow marks the UK release date of one of the most eagerly awaited Disney sequels of all time. Finding Dory has been YEARS in the making – can you believe Finding Nemo came out thirteen years ago? Madness. Even Ellen DeGeneres (the voice behind the unforgettable but forgetful fish) complained that it took too long to get the project off the ground.
Imagine how we feel Ellen! Thankfully fans across the globe have praised the new storyline which sees Dory taken centre stage on a quest to find her parents. But to be honest, even if it was rubbish, we’d still be buying the overpriced ticket (and even more overpriced popcorn) just to feel like big kids again. Because, as any ’90s kid knows, nothing can make your day quite like a Disney sequel.
We’ve watched then all – the good, the bad and the ugly. These top ten Disney sequels are the best of the lot. Let us know if you agree with our picks!
10. The Rescuers Down Under
A whopping 68% on Rotten Tomatoes secures this bad boy in our top ten. The sequel to the 1977 Disney animated feature The Rescuers see our fave badass mice Bernard and Bianca travel to Australia to save a a rare eagle. Cue plucky script, excellent fight scenes and heartwarming action.
9. Kronk’s New Groove
Kind of like the animated version of Netflix’s Frankie and Grace sitcom. Kooky characters, belly laughs and more excellent dance moves than the Formation tour.
8. Aladdin And The King Of Thieves

7. An Extremely Goofy Movie

6. Monsters University
5. Mulan II
Sadly Eddie Murphy doesn’t return as Mulan’s sassy sidekick but this film has enough laughs, action and heartwarming patriotism to help us forgive the lacklustre casting.
4. The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea

Arial has an annoying daughter with annoying black hair but it does have a great villain in Ursula’s sister, Morgana who we LOVE.
3. Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas
Okay so Rotten Tomatos has given this one a measly 17% but bare with me, this is one of the best animated films of all time! It might not strictly be a sequel but rather a Beauty and the Beast Christmas special: the film shares the background story of how Belle and the Beast grew closer to each other over the festive season (aw!) before they managed to break the spell and return everyone to human form. Slighlt confusing yes, but also filled with cracking tunes, new villains and the most heart warming Xmas vibes EVER.
2. The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride
Great tunes, adorable animals and the classic heartstrirring tactics that Disney excel at.
1. Toy Story 2 and 3
Because the only think better than one great sequel is two great sequels – the third was so good it was even nominated for the Best Picture Oscar! These two gems give us the right mix of warm and gooey nostalgia with fresh new storylines. Is is too much to ask for a fourth?
