Twitter turns 10 today, celebrating a whole decade of 140-character quips and some landmark one-liners along the way.
Here we take a look at some of the top tweets of the last ten years.
1) The ‘Wizarding World Meets Hiphop’ Tweet What’s better than JK Rowling taking on internet trolls?
JK Rowling taking on internet trolls while quoting Chamillionaire. That’s right.

2) The ‘Remember Who The Boss Is’ Tweet.
Top tweeter and leader of the free world Barack Obama got his own back on gun-slinging movie actor and director Clint Eastwood in 140 characters.
Clint made a speech at the Republic National Convention talking to an ‘invisible’ Obama sitting on a chair, so Obama sent this cutting response to assert his authority.

3) The Superstar Selfie.
Who knew cramming so many good looking movie stars into one photo would be such an internet hit? Oh wait, everyone.

4) The First Ever Tweet. There had to be one, and it was very succinct.
The social media platform would explode to have 305million users in countries across the globe, off the back of this simple message.

5) The ‘Making a Point’ Tweet.
Many celebrities and public figures have used Twitter as a platform to spread messages about causes they believe in.
Ricky Gervais spoke openly and frequently about hunting (and what he thinks of hunters.) This is one of the less gruesome ones:
There’s a big difference between the natural need for a species to kill and eat prey & just shooting an animal simply as a ghastly trophy.

6) The ‘I Accidentally Just Broke Huge, HUGE News’ Tweet.
So this guy’s chilling at home in Abbottabad back in 2011, minding his own business, when he tweets about hearing a helicopter overhead.
Little did he know he’d just inadvertently sent an online warning flare that the US Seals were closing in on Osama Bin Laden.
Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event).

7) The ‘Ground Control To Major Tom’ Tweet.
Back in 2010 they started tweeting from space, no biggie. They left the planet in a rocket and tweeted the world from the international space station, even answering questions in an extra-terrestrial Q and A.
Hello Twitterverse! We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station — the 1st live tweet from Space! 🙂 More soon, send your ?s

8) The ‘Derailed Train of Thought’ Tweet
Britney didn’t bother separating her thoughts on climate change and her thoughts on Lady Gaga. Does she think Lady Gaga is in some way connected to global warming? Is she suggesting the planet is hotter as a result of Lady G? Who knows.
Does anyone think global warming is a good thing? I love Lady Gaga. I think she’s a really interesting artist.

9) The ‘One has learned how to use the world wide web’ tweet : The Queen’s first foray into micro-blogging.
She was met by abuse instantly, which was accidentally broadcast on BBC. Oops.
It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R.

10) The ‘Oh Yup, There’s A Plane in The Hudson’ Tweet.
In 2009, Captain Chesley Sullenberger managed to land a troubled plane on the Hudson River and Janis Krums was there to tweet about it afterwards.
The landing was viewed as a miracle, and the Captain flying the airliner that day had previously undergone water landing training which meant he was perfect in such a crisis.

11) The ‘I’m a New Woman’ Tweet.
Caitlyn Jenner revealed her true identity on Twitter, tweeting a pic of her Vanity Fair cover. Welcome to the world, Caitlyn!

12) The ‘Speaks for God, Tweets for God’ Tweet.
Pope Francis micro-blogging for prayers across the internet #21stcenturycatholicism
Dear friends, I thank you from my heart and I ask you to continue to pray for me.

13) The ‘Celeb Feud’ Tweet.
When Sinead wrote an open letter to Miley Cyrus condemning her behaviour and claiming she was being exploited by her record label, Miley responded with this. Ouch.
Sinead. I don’t have time to write you an open letter cause Im hosting & performing on SNL this week.
— Miley Ray Cyrus (@MileyCyrus) October 3, 2013
14) The ‘Say What, Jaden?’ Tweet.
Oh Jaden. Jaden, Jaden, Jaden.
You were great in Karate Kid and The Pursuit of Happyness, but a fountain of wisdom you are not. An illiterate world without education doesn’t sound like the best way forward, and you shouldn’t capitalise every word in your sentences (ask your English teacher.)
This isn’t Jaden’s only weird tweet, his feed is a veritable minefield of Smith Jnr wisdom.
If Everybody In The World Dropped Out Of School We Would Have A Much More Intelligent Society.
