What is it?

In today’s world it is all about convenience. As scheduled TV viewing continues to decline and the use of streaming services increases, it is no wonder that the two channels are jumping on the metaphorical band wagon.

The Brit-tastic streaming service is already available in the US and Canada with over 500,000 subscribers.

Unlike the existing BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub where the majority of shows are available for a set length of time, BritBox will keep shows forever.

That means no more rushing to binge Luther before Idris’s time on BBC iPlayer is up.

When will it be available?

Before the streaming service is made available in the UK it has to be approved by regulators like OFCOM.

If they give it the go-ahead you should be able to access BritBox in the second half of 2019.

What shows will it have?

We’re still waiting to receive a list of all the shows that BritBox will have, but it will be the home of content new and old.

In the US and Canada it is home to Luther, Coronation Street, EastEnders and every series of Doctor Who.

Along with all of our current and past obsessions the streaming service will be commissioning brand new exclusive content.

What about show on other streaming services?

It has already been confirmed that any deals with streaming services like Netflix will be honoured. That means if a BBC show is currently on Netflix it will stay there, at least until the contract is renewed.

Other channels including Channel 4 and Channel 5 are rumoured to be in talks to get involved too.

How much will it cost?

The exact price of the streaming service is yet to be confirmed but it will be competitive.

Social media rumours have it priced at as little as £5 a month. This could be close because its US counterpart costs $6.99 a month.
