UCAS lend a helping hand

There’s no denying leaving high school can be a daunting process – what are you supposed to do next? If you’re freaking out, never fear, because UCAS have launched a series of online courses to help you figure it all out.

The free online courses – for teachers, advisors, parents and pupils – will guide you through all the different opportunities available. From an apprenticeship, college or degree – hey, maybe you even want to take a year out – these courses will get you on the right path.

Delivered through FutureLearn, students can take part on the Smart Choices: Broadening Your Horizons course, starting on 6 November.

Already students have found the course rewarding with one participant who says: “I vaguely knew what I wanted to do, but the course has made me more certain and I’ve taken steps to actually make things happen… I have realised there’s more to think about than just picking a course.”

Completing the course will give you a greater understanding of all the options available to you, how to best research the information to make sure you make the right choices for you.

Rebecca Bale, careers information and advice lead at UCAS, says: “We know how time-pressed teachers are, and how hard it can be for students to choose their next step when there’s so much riding on it. That’s why we’ve come up with these courses. They can find all the information in one place, and take the short course from the comfort of their home or school, at their own pace.”

Don’t worry; this isn’t going to be a course that drains all your free time. Running for two weeks it is encouraged you spend tow or three hours a week on the course to get the best results.

Make sure you get signed up for this free course and get all the support you possibly can for your future. To register simply visit, Smart Choices: Broadening Your Horizons.
